The Dutch Bakery has been a staple of Victoria for many, many years. The quality of the goods is always excellent especially their Vanilla Slice and Mocha Tarts. Their cakes are always great (I like to eat them frozen, my husband likes them room tempature). The Dutch Bakery is one of the places my children miss most after moving from Victoria.-----Adell
Great food and desserts.Loved it !!!!
My Grandmother purchased Easter treats for us children for many years while we were growing up. I am now 51, glad to be back in Victoria, and very nostalgic about the dutch bakery. I married a Dutchman, and am very happy to have treats made with the Dutch influence as I think their tastebuds have DNA memory. My son enjoys these treats as well. I myself am of French/Scotish background and think it is okay. My grandmother went for lunch with Aunt Rose for many years every other week. I tried out the restaurant about 6 years ago. I must agree with the other person who commented that the service is not very enthusiastic. The food is very mediocre. Everything, including the decor, is English bland, bland, bland. However, the front end offers something historical and nostalgic with it's authentic bakery treats. There is confusion about who works on what side and who can do what. It's a smart idea to have the number chits as it can get very busy. The Restaurant I would rate from Fair to Poor. The Bakery is Very Good to Excellent.
Could you tell me how much a small white birthday day would cost?
If I can't have a Dutch Bakery cake for my birthday then I don't want any cake at all. This truly is the best cake ever. The butter icing is to die for and the cake is moist and delicious.
back in 1980 when I was working in Victoria I used to go to the bakery every day for everyone in the office the little almond round cakes were my favorites. my son now lives and Victoria and I will be out there soon. I was very very exceited to be able to share this little bakery with my son. We both look forward to being thier soon
Ordered and just picked up a 12" black forest cake (almost $60) for our daughter's birthday party - I wanted a special chocolate cake but it was extremely average, tasted like it was from a mix. The butter cream frosting was so thin we couldn't even taste it (less than 1/4" on top and filling). The cherry filling tasted like it was from a can of cherry pie filling - disappointing cake that wasn't special in any way.
Don't know what family runs this bakery but the rude young woman who eventually waited on us (after skipping our number and blatantly ignoring our protests) might have been some family member who very obviously did NOT want to be there.
Bad experience all - around, we are NEVER going back.
word of mouth brought me to the bakery but be forewarned it is more nasalgia then quality. The pastery was average at best, the service was poor and the management was actually rude. Its nice to visit local places, but this town seems to have a good number of local places to shop try the others first
Basic, old, nothing special - manager is rude!
